PEORIA, Ill. — A suspect has been identified in connection with Peoria’s sixth homicide of the year.
On the night of June 29th, Peoria Police were called to a shooting the 300 block of N. Saratoga and found one person deceased due to a gunshot wound.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has since identified the victim as 43-year-old Andre Leathers Sr., of Peoria.
During the investigation, police have now identified the suspect of that shooting as Dujuane P. Nelson, 26 years of age.
“On June 30th, the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for the arrest of Nelson for first-degree murder and listed bond at $1.5 million,” said Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson.
Peoria Police are seeking assistance from the public in locating Nelson.
“Nelson should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. Anyone with information about Nelson’s whereabouts is asked to contact Peoria Police at 673-4521 or CrimeStoppers at 673-9000,” Dotson said.
