PEORIA, Ill. — Severe thunderstorms caused flash flooding in the Peoria area.
Due to an extreme torrential downpour of rain late Wednesday afternoon, several people had to be rescued from their vehicles by firefighters.
Water on Knoxville was reported to be over 3 feet high in depth in some areas.
Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada said several people had to be rescued from their vehicles after being overcome with water.
“We had to send additional companies to different parts of Knoxville to get the people out of the water, so that they weren’t in harms way. We also had calls on Ronald Road, W. Nebraska, Richard Allen, NE Adams, Shipman and Frye for the same thing,” Rada said.
Meanwhile, a partial building collapse of a residential home was reported on West Richwoods Blvd.
“We estimate that a 30-foot wide by 8-foot tall section of the foundation had completely caved into the home,” Rada said.
Firefighters shut off the home’s utilities to prevent further hazards. Ameren was called in to assist with the situation. The home was deemed uninhabitable.
