PEORIA, Ill. — A Peoria organization called Build Peoria celebrated and dedicated Wednesday the completion of the 5th resident officer home in Peoria.
The house was renovated and donated as a resident officer house, located on 1011 NE Madison, to the city’s police department.
According to BUILD Peoria President Nick Yates, the house was donated by Habitat for Humanity. “A lot of community involvement went in to the yearlong project, said Yates.
Peoria Police Chief Loren Marion said this is the fifth resident officer location in Peoria.
“The department is very excited about this location, and how these homes impact of reducing crime in selected neighborhoods.” according to Marion.
Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis says the Residential Officer Programs serve a greater need to the community.
“It a better way to communicate and further serve Peoria, when any residential officer can integrate themselves in the neighborhoods.” said Ardis
During the media event, Yates indicated that Build Peoria’s next project is to build two new bus shelters to protect people from harsh weather.
Building is scheduled to begin this fall.
