SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Exactly half the state is at warning level for COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) said Friday.
51 of the state’s 102 counties currently have two or more risk indicators that measure the amount of COVID-19 indicators.
IDPH says the reason for warnings varies between counties, but common factors include gatherings in people’s homes, weddings and funerals, bars and clubs, college parties and sports teams, family gatherings, long-term care facilities, correctional centers and schools.
The organization also noted a rise among people in their 20s.
“Public health officials are observing businesses blatantly disregarding mitigation measures, people not social distancing, gathering in large groups, and not using face covering,” said IDPH in a statement.
Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties are not considered to be at warning level.
IDPH announced 3,874 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, including 31 additional deaths.
Within the past 24 hours, 82,256 tests were completed for a total of 7,113,338 since the pandemic began.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate from Oct. 16 – 22 is 5.6%.
As of last night, 2,498 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 511 patients were in the ICU and 197 were on ventilators.
