PEORIA, Ill. — Nine Peoria and Tazewell County residents passed away over the weekend from complications related to COVID-19.
Eight of the nine were residents of long-term care facilities.
In Tazewell, a female in her 80s and one in her 90s, both of whom lived at Generations at Riverview, passed away.
A man in his 80s who lived at Timber Creek died, as did a woman in her 90s who didn’t live in long-term care.
All five of Peoria County’s deaths occurred at two nursing facilities.
At Buehler Home, a female in her 80s and a woman in her 90s succumbed to the virus.
Heritage Health in Chillicothe reported three deaths: a male in his 70s, one in his 80s and a woman in her 90s.
New cases were abundant between Friday and Monday, as the Peoria City/County Health Department recorded 376 throughout Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford.
Peoria accounted for 194, Tazewell recorded 129, and Woodford had 53.
Perhaps consequently, area hospitalizations jumped, with 80 people as of Monday afternoon in hospitals with the virus or with suspected cases of the virus.
20 of them were in intensive care units.
The area’s recovery rate fell to 81.5%.
