SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — 10,000 was the number on Thursday to keep in mind, as Illinois hit one dubious COVID-19 milestone and nearly hit another.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said with 97 deaths between Wednesday and Thursday reported, 10,030 people throughout the state had passed away from the virus.
Meanwhile, nearly 10,000 people during the reporting period tested positive, with 9,935 new cases.
Labs across the state collected 86,015 specimens.
3,891 people as of Wednesday night had been admitted to hospitals. 772 of them were in intensive care, and 343 required a ventilator.
The state’s rolling seven-day positivity rate was 9.1%.
