PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Public Schools student will not immediately return to the classroom after the holiday.s
Schools Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said at Monday night’s School Board meeting that the district will implement precautionary measures to keep PPS school buildings safe following holiday travel.
“This includes the beginning second semester with two weeks of remote learning,” Kherat said.
The move comes as Gov. J-B Pritzker has imposed COVID-19 mitigation measures statewide and an expected spike of COVID case after the holidays.
“The winter remote learning period will allow the 14-days to elapse before bringing to students back to in-person learning,” Kherat said.
The concern is that exposure to extended family members over the holidays could lead to an increase of COVID-19 cases at PPS schools.
