PEORIA, Ill. — Over 200 Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford County residents were in local hospitals as of Thursday afternoon because of the coronavirus.
The Peoria City/County Health Department said of the 201 hospitalized patients, 59 had cases severe enough to be placed into intensive care.
One person between Wednesday and Thursday died from virus complications, who was a woman in her 60s from Peoria County who did have comorbidities and did not live in long-term care.
There have been 201 deaths in the tri-county related to COVID since the pandemic began.
417 people during the reporting period received positive test results.
177 of them were Peoria County residents, 169 live in Tazewell, and Woodford reported 71.
In a piece of encouraging news, the rolling seven-day positivity rate for Region Two went down for a second consecutive day, from 16.9% to 16.7%. The entire state on Friday is set to be under tier three mitigation guidelines.
In order for a region to move back to tier two, a region must experience a rolling seven-day test positivity average of under 12% for three consecutive days, a greater than 20 percent available intensive care unit and hospital bed availability for three consecutive days, and a declining seven-day COVID hospitalizations average in seven out of the last 10 days.
The area’s recovery rate went down to just below 70%.
