PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Police Department and Building Code Enforcement were looking into what caused the Monday morning partial collapse of a brick business building.
Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were dispatched around 9:30 to the 400 block of Hamilton.
As soon as they arrived, they found a large pile of bricks on the ground alongside of the building, and discovered it was part of a third floor facade that had fallen.
There were no people among the rubble. People inside the building were evacuated safely.
Battalion Chief Clint Kuhlman said there was no immediately identifiable cause.
“I can only assume it was just over years of deterioration, some sort of fault in the building itself,” he said.
“But, it’s up to code enforcement to determine exactly what caused it to collapse like that.”
A building next door was also evacuated in case of a secondary collapse.
