PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department is making a concerted effort to enforce COVID-19 mitigation procedures through its Progressive Enforcement Procedure.
Public Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson detailed the multi-step process Tuesday during the local weekly COVID-19 update.
Businesses that do not comply with laws are first reported to the Restore HOI website and logged into the Health Departement’s system.
Hendrickson said businesses are then either provided education on how to better follow mitigation efforts or receive a follow-up from the Health Department.
“Following that, we look at subsequent complaints that come in and then it is routed to the agency that is best equipped,” Hendrickson stated.
The Health Department does not handle every complaint. State or local agencies also handle complaints, depending on which regulatory agency is involved.
Roughly 20 area businesses have had complaints filed against them for non-compliance, but Hendrickson said there are still many local businesses are still following regulations.
Over 200 restaurants have been nominated for the Health Department’s COVID Excellence Award.
“The majority of individuals are doing the right thing, and that’s the narrative that we should be pushing forward,” said Hendrickson.
