PEORIA, Ill. — Due to the risk of COVID-19, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court is pausing all jury trials, effective Nov. 30, through January 8, with the possibility of an extension.
Chief Judge Paul Gilfillan said the court will also be increasing its reliance on remote virtual hearings to help minimize the number of people entering courthouse buildings.
“This is a step taken out of caution,” Gilfillan said.
“While jury trials have been conducted safely to date from a juror perspective, the situation in our counties (Peoria, Tazewell, Marshall, Putnam and Stark) is changing. We must be mindful of the risk and reduce in person attendance to the extent reasonable,” Gilfillan said.
All 10th Circuit courtrooms will remain open, however.
“With the continued good work, focus and cooperation of attorneys, court staff, justice partners and the public, we are optimistic for better days ahead,” Gilfillan said.
