SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported its highest number of deaths over a 24-hour period since COVID-19 testing began.
IDPH said 238 people in the state between Tuesday and Wednesday died from complications related to the virus.
9,757 people during that time tested positive.
Testing labs said they received 85,507 specimens as the state’s rolling seven-day positivity rate once again crept upwards, to 10.6%.
Statewide hospitalizations slightly decreased, with 5,764 virus patients in beds throughout the state. 1,190 of those patients were in intensive care, and 714 were using ventilators to breathe.
