MORTON, Ill. — A former Morton High School teacher who resigned in September after an investigation of an “inappropriate relationship” with a student, has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor, a Class 2 felony.
An affidavit of probable cause showed Erin Kemp admitted to school administrators that she had a relationship with one of her students for about a month.
The relationship reportedly included kissing and inappropriate touching, but Kemp denied that the touching would be considered sexual.
News partner 25 News reports that on September 21, the Tazewell County Children’s Advocacy Center interviewed the student — who said sexual contact occurred multiple times.
Morton Police reviewed text messages between Kemp and the student, which showed their interaction was “of a nature inconsistent with a teacher-student relationship.”
Kemp is due back in court December 28.
