UPDATE — The Tazewell County Coroner’s Office announced the suspect responsible for stabbing the East Peoria police officer was 19-year old Joshua A. Crites.
Crites was shot and killed early Tuesday morning. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest.

UPDATE — Illinois State Police, hours after the incident, have provided an update on the officer-involved shooting in East Peoria that left one person dead Tuesday morning.
According to a press release from the ISP, the East Peoria police officer was stabbed multiple times by the suspect. The officer shot the suspect and responding officers provided medical care to the suspect.
The officer was transported to a hospital where he remains in stable condition, the ISP said.
An adult female and a juvenile female were also transported to a hospital where they are recovering from injuries sustained in the initial domestic violence incident.
The investigation is ongoing by the ISP and ISP Crime Scene Services Command.

EAST PEORIA, Ill. — A suspect was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in East Peoria.
East Peoria Police Chief Rich Brodrick said the incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. outside the CVS Pharmacy at E. Washington and Farmdale Road.
“During that contact an officer was stabbed, and the subject was shot and died at the scene,” Brodrick said.
Brodrick said the officer was investigating a domestic disturbance and was pursuing a vehicle when the confrontation occurred.
“At 00:50 hours, East Peoria Police responded to a domestic violence call in our city. Part of the domestic call had left the scene prior to police arrival,” Brodrick said.
The East Peoria officer was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning.
Neither the suspect’s name, nor the officer’s name have been released.
An investigation is being handled by Illinois State Police, as is typical with a police-involved shooting.
