PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department (PCCHD) Monday reported 10 new area deaths due to COVID-19 over the weekend.
Four deaths were Peoria County residents: a male in his 20s, a male in his 60s, and a male in his 50s. According to PCCHD, they are awaiting information on the fourth death.
Six deaths were Tazewell County residents: a female in her 60s; a male in his 60s; a male in his 70s; a male in his 70s, who resided at Pekin Manor; a male in his 80s, who resided at Pekin Manor; and a male in his 90s, who resided at Villas of Hollybrook Pekin.
Hospital usage in the area increased by 38 over the weekend, including an increase of seven in ICU bed usage.
608 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend throughout the tri-county area. 371 were reported in Peoria County, 180 were reported in Tazewell County, and 57 were reported in Woodford County.
With those cases, the tri-county area has now surpassed 40,000 since the pandemic began.
Region 2 of Illinois now has a seven-day rolling positivity rate of 7.2%, and ICU bed capacity has decreased to 18%.
There have also been hospitalization increases in the region for more than 10 straight days.
