UPDATE 5:45 p.m. — Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the driver who died as 34-year-old David Carman of Kewanee.
According to Illinois State Police, Carman was travelling southbound on Rt. 78 in a Ford Ranger pick-up and crossed into northbound lanes for unknown reasons before hitting another truck head-on.
The collision caused Carman’s truck to roll on its top and pin him inside.
Carman suffered multiple blunt force crush and trauma injuries and died instantly, according to Harwood.
A toxicology report is pending, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police.

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — llinois State Police said one man has died and two others were injured after a traffic collision in Peoria County Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say the crash happened at approximately 12:22 p.m.
A preliminary investigation showed a vehicle traveling southbound on Illinois 78 at White Road veered to the left, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle in the northbound lane.
Police say the southbound vehicle rolled unto its roof, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the southbound vehicle and the driver of the northbound vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Illinois 78 was shut down from Lorrence Road up to Duncan Road for about six hours.
The victim, who police say is a resident of Kewanee, has not yet been identified.
