SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Bucking a recent trend of fewer people getting the COVID-19 vaccine than when the shot was first made available, the Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday reported 126,023 doses between Thursday and Friday were administered.
This number far surpassed the rolling seven-day average of 76,812.
In total, 1,573 people during the reporting period tested positive. 21 died.
1,426 Illinoisans as of Thursday night were being kept at hospitals because of complications related to the virus. Of them, 360 were in intensive care, and 206 were using ventilators to breathe.
Testing labs throughout the state collected 73,099 specimens to be tested.
