MORTON, Ill. — Just two days after announcing Superintendent Jeff Hill would be retiring at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, Morton District 709 announced who will fill Hill’s shoes.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Craig Smock has been tapped to drop the “assistant” part of his title.
Smock has been employed by the district for the last 14 years, serving in a variety of capacities.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Smock of the promotion.
“It’s just very humbling to even think about leading a great district like Morton. I wanted my kids to be a part of that long before I started working here.”
He said the superintendency has been his “dream job.”
The school board is set June 1 to officially approve Smock.
