PEORIA, Ill. — A man was taken Tuesday into Peoria Police custody on two counts related to murder of a man who’d been missing since early March.
32-year-old Gabriel Cook was reported to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office March 9 as missing. He was last seen March 8, having taken a family member’s Jeep without permission.
On the same day Cook was last seen in the Jeep, PCSO found the Jeep on fire on S. Kickapoo Rd.
Evidence found at a crime scene March 25 by PCSO and the Peoria Police Department led to the case’s being investigated as a homicide.
28-year-old Allen Schimmelpfennig was named as a person of interest.
Schimmelpfennig was found Tuesday on N. Galena Rd. by PPD detectives.
He was subsequently taken to the police station for questioning, and then arrested for first degree murder, concealment of a homicidal death, and possession of methamphetamine.
