EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The realization of a new outdoor concert venue in East Peoria has taken another step towards reality, as commissioners on Tuesday night approved phase two of the Levee Park project.
The estimated $740,779 phase will consist of construction of the stage, hardscaping, landscaping, seating, and sidewalks that can be used even on non-performance days.
The funding will come partially from a Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant, and partially from East Peoria Community Foundation contributions.
“There will be no tax revenue dollars from the city used on this,” said Commissioner Mark Hill.
“It’s going to be a great project. This will be a great improvement to the property out here known as Levee Park.”
The park is the green space located next to East Peoria City Hall. Council and the East Peoria Community Foundation hope to use the park for events besides just concerts, such as sports, weddings, and receptions.
Phase one, the Reading Gardens, has already been completed, and has been used by the Fondulac District Library for activities. Phase three will consist of installation of a water feature.
Morton-based W.M. Aupperle & Sons has been contracted for the project.
