PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Public Schools students will return to the classroom next week, and the district is taking steps to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in the primary schools.
The PPS School Board on Monday night approved rapid testing for COVID-19 surveillance in grades K-4. Similar testing was done at the district’s high schools last year.
This fall, PPS is shifting its focus to kids 12 and under, since they currently are not able to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Parents or guardians must sign a consent form in order for their children to get tested at school. PPS has already sent out those forms.
The first day of school at PPS is Wednesday, August 18.
