SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed 24,682 new and probable cases of COVID-19, including 126 additional deaths.
Officials also say the number of people getting testes has been increasing. Additionally, more than 77% of adults in Illinois have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 60% of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated.
Still, Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he’s concerned about the situation, “Especially since the Delta variant is having an increasingly serious medical impact on younger people.”
As of Thursday night, 2,000 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.
Peoria City/County Health Department officials have reported 48 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Peoria County in the previous 24 hours as of Friday afternoon.
Pritzker was asked by reporters Friday his reaction to the City of Chicago’s mandate that masks need to be worn indoors.
“I encourage other local governments to also take proactive steps and we will look at the state level whether that’s an appropriate thing at some moment,” Pritzker said.
