PEORIA, Ill. — It’s unclear what caused a fire overnight at a Peoria furniture store.
Firefighters were called to The Store in the 2500 block of N. Sheridan around 11:30 p.m. on a fire alarm.
Crews found heavy smoke on the first floor, and called for additional firefighters due to the size of the building.
“Additional crews did come,” Battalion Chief Steve Rada said. “We ended up pulling two attack lines off machines, and had to use multiple forcible entry tools and fans to get rid of the smoke in the building. Crews did find a fire on the second floor in the rear of the building,” Rada added.
The first floor suffered significant damage, while fire damage was contained to the back of the second floor.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
No injuries were reported.
