CHICAGO, Ill. – It remains not the most popular statement Illinois Governor JB Pritzker will ever make, but Pritzker is again urging residents to “mask up.”
Pritzker says while the state’s COVID-19 numbers in terms of hospitalizations are holding somewhat steady despite regional increases, they’re also not going down either.
“Until they come down the other side of this, we can’t let up on our mitigations,” said Pritzker.
And Pritzker is placing the blame squarely on officials in local municipalities.
“As you’ve seen throughout this pandemic, there have been local officials who’ve been unwilling to stand up for the people of their communities on a mask mandate,” said Pritzker. “It’s perhaps now more important than ever as we have our children back in schools.”
Some school districts like Morton signed off on an op-ed accusing the Pritzker administrations among others of overreach, and communities like East Peoria saying they wouldn’t enforce a mask mandate.
This, as reports suggest that one out of every 500 residents nationwide has now lost their life due to COVID-19.
