WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says several Central Illinois communities still haven’t gotten the money they’re owed from the government to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bustos says in the 17th Congressional District, roughly $762,000 in federal money from the American Rescue Plan remains unclaimed for local villages, and the villages have until Thursday, September 30, to make those claims.
In the immediate area, Bustos says North Pekin is owed $210,000, and four communities in Fulton County could have a combined $70,000-plus coming to them.
“Some of our smallest communities are at risk of losing federal funding owed to them through the American Rescue Plan, and my office wants to make sure that the residents of these villages receive the support they’re due,” said Bustos (D-East Moline), in a news release.
Bustos says the money can be used to offset losses of money responding to the pandemic, along with other revenue losses through the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Program.
A list of Peoria-area communities owed money, according to Bustos’ office:
- Ellisville (Fulton County): $12,506.87
- Liverpool (Fulton County): $16,721.14
- Marietta (Fulton County): $14,817.92
- Smithfield (Fulton County): $30,043.67
- North Pekin (Tazewell County): $210,033.80
