PEORIA, Ill. – (25 News) – A coffin display was placed along West Lincoln Avenue Saturday.
The display was in response to Wednesday’s fatal shooting of a Manual High School senior.
The coffins were displayed outside New Beginnings Worship Center at 1910 W. Lincoln Avenue with a sign that read, “Help Us Stop the Violence.”
Pastor Quinton Brown says the display is used as a reminder for people passing by to think before they act.
“Senseless violence has hit our city and the community must come together. It will take a village to stop it. It takes a village to raise our kids, it will take a village to stop this violence in our city,” Brown said.
“Our new Police Chief can’t do it alone. He will need everyone and the community. If we want to make this a better city, we must all come together.”
“There are already other problems that are going on from poverty to our food deserts and economic development,” Brown said. “We don’t want to add other aspects such as murders and killings in the community to make it worse.”
