UPDATE – Peoria, Ill – The Peoria County coroner has identified the victim of a Thursday morning house fire in Peoria.
DeShawn Jones, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire at 903 W. Thrush at 6:32 a.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find smoke and flames coming from the front window of the structure. Jones was found just inside the residence by the first crew entering the structure and brought outside immediately.
Coroner Jamie Harwood says an autopsy revealed Jones died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhalation of smoke and soot during the fire. Jones’ body also had extensive burns, likely suffered after he had died.
Toxicology results are pending.
Firefighter were called back to the residence around 3 a.m. Friday, finding smoke come from the home’s roof and eaves. The was knocked down within five minutes.
An investigator determined smoldering embers in the attic’s insulation sparked the fire.

PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded to the 900 block of W. Thrush early Friday morning, less than 24 hours after a residential fire claimed a man’s life there.
Crews were on scene just after 3 a.m., finding smoke coming from the home’s roof and eves.
The fire was knocked down in a matter of minutes.
An investigator determined smoldering embers in the attic’s insulation sparked the fire.
No one was inside the home when fire broke out, and no firefighters were injured.
