Peoria, Ill — Embattled Richwoods High School secretary Courtney Lewis is now out of a job, but students did not appear satisfied during the Peoria Public School Board meeting Monday night.
“Why is Ms. Lewis being allowed to resign instead of being terminated?”, asked Desiree Lawson, one of several students to speak.
During testimony, the group of students raised concerns that Lewis’s situation may have been “swept under the rug” by school officials until public pressure forced their hand.
District Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat told students, “the right process” must always be followed.
It all centers around a video that surfaced October 18th.
In the video, Lewis, who is white, appears to used the N-word. However, it wasn’t precisely clear in the video whether Lewis said the word or if someone off camera did.
Another person can be heard in the video laughing off camera.
