PEORIA, Ill. – A teacher at a Peoria school is believed to have been attacked, and not much is officially known about it.
Peoria Federation of Teachers president Jeff Adkins-Dutro did not return WMBD’s calls for comment, but the Journal Star reports a teacher at Mark Bills Middle School was assaulted earlier this week.
The teacher is reportedly doing okay now.
Peoria Public Schools spokesperson Thomas Bruch tells WMBD News there has only been one instance of an altercation involving a teacher this academic year. But such cases are handled through the normal process, which includes a review and then a final decision by the Board of Education.
Bruch says the district can’t comment further, since it’s both a personnel matter, and one involving a student.
“The safety our students and staff members at our school buildings is our top priority,” said Bruch. “We have a dedicated school safety department that constantly implements and reviews strategies to continue safe instruction in our schools”
