Peoria, Ill — There’s at least one kid in Peoria who may still want to be a police officer when they grow up.
It’s a child named Sophia, who’s gone viral on social media for a photo she took with a Peoria Park District Police Officer last Halloween weekend.
Officer Ken Ober says the girl’s family approached him as he directed traffic Halloween night along the always-busy Grandview Drive.
“I had just stopped traffic and I looked over and Sophia and her family were standing at the curb and asked, ‘can I take a picture with you?’, and I said, ‘cmon out’ and she ran out and (Sophia) caught my attention because her police uniform was just unbelievable.”
Ober told his story on WMBD’s “The Craig Collins Show” this week.
He indicated he’s happy to know there are still families in Peoria who appreciate the role of law enforcement.
“I have to give kudos to the parents, because they (the kids) must not being hearing anything negative about first responders or police officers at home or they wouldn’t even attempt to walk up to us.”
