PEORIA, Ill. – Some housing for Peoria’s homeless might soon go up a the former Methodist College of Nursing in downtown Peoria.
Peoria’s Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday signed off on a plan to turn the former college, next to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, into what developer Phoenix Community Development Services calls supportive living spaces.
The building, once a Ramada Inn, would have 55 apartments and more than 150 parking spaces.
The plan now moves to the Peoria City Council for final approval.
It was built in 1965, and outside of a daycare facility still operating in it, it’s been vacant since 2015 when Methodist College moved out and to near the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
