East Peoria hosts 90th Veterans Day parade
EAST PEORIA, Ill. – (25 News) – The oldest continuous Veterans Day parade in Tazewell County continued its tradition Saturday.
Veterans of different military branches, along with their families and all others in support, cruised through the Levee District as the small crowds cheered them on.
As Veterans Day approaches Nov. 11, navy veteran Steve Delinski said that day, for him, is about feeling the pride of protecting the freedom of the country.
“It’s something that I enjoyed, I loved being in the navy,” Delinski said. “It’s just one of those things of intense pride. God gave us such a great country.”
People watching the parade said they hold veterans day close to their heart, and often use it as a time to think about their loved ones who have served in the military.
“I have three ancestors that fought in the revolutionary war so we’re pretty proud of that,” parade attendee Aaron Miller said. “We just want to support the veterans and support the day.”
The event also featured a memorial service and a post parade party with an air force jazz band, violinists and more.
