PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police confirm that a juvenile shot Monday afternoon has died.
The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Sheridan, near MacQueen and Sheridan. A ShotSpotter alert indicated “multiple rounds” fired.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says despite, in his words, “aggressive resuscitative efforts,” Dequwan Pruitt, 15, was pronounced dead about 12 hours after the shooting.
Neighbors told news partner 25 News they saw a gunman run up to the victim and shoot him in a yard. Police have not identified any suspects.
It appears the shooting is Peoria’s 29th homicide of 2021.

Harwood says an autopsy on Pruitt will be conducted tomorrow Wednesday.

Public Information Officer Semone Roth said the victim taken to a hospital with critical injuries. They have since passed away.
