PEORIA, Ill. – (25 News) – Members Boys and Girls Club of Peoria got to hear from a special guest speaker who served in the U.S. Secret Service Saturday.
Ahead of the organization’s 18th annual “Fill the Treasure Chest’ fundraiser, kids got to enjoy lunch with Kathryn Childers, who was one of the first women hired as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service in 1970.
Childers spoke to kids about her secret to success, telling them to follow their dreams and to “do it scared”, her life long mantra she highlights in her new book “Scared Fearless”.
“The rest of your life, you’re gonna be faced with situations – personal, professional- life situations,” Childers said. “They’re all going to be requiring you to just do it scared. There will be things that’s scary, and that’s my message.”
“Fill the Treasure Chest” fundraiser is a way to thank donors, volunteers, and leaders for their guidance and dedication.
The event was held at Peoria Riverfront Museum.
