PEORIA, Ill. – You don’t even need to have a CDL in order to become a driver for parts the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District.
As new drivers for the “CityLift” and “CountyLink” portions of the system were put through a training course Tuesday at the parking lot of the Landmark complex, we learn that drivers are needed now more than ever.
“It’s not a secret that there’s been a driver shortage nationwide,” said Emily Watson, spokesperson. “Transdev has been struggling with that, just like a lot of other companies and transit agencies. They are definitely looking for skilled drivers.”
The drivers are being hired, spokesperson Emily Watson says, through “Transdev” — the firm that operates the paratransit and county transit services for the Mass Transit District.
“Sometimes I think it can be a challenge for people to think about driving for public transit,” said Watson. “You think about truck driving and other types of delivery drivers, and I think transit drivers, sometimes, are just kind of an afterthought. It’s a great job.”
They are looking for at least ten new drivers now. You can apply by CLICKING HERE and searching for “Peoria.”
