PRINCEVILLE, Ill. – A Peoria County school district is going to remote learning until early December, after what might end up being an outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the school.
The Princeville School District says on social media it’s going to what they call an “adaptive pause” — or, remote learning — until December 7th.
The District says the week of November 8th, only three students in the whole district were out side. That ballooned to over 80 last week, and more than 100 other students are in what they call “test to stay” protocol.
In-person learning is cancelled starting Tuesday until the 7th, and all extra-curricular practices and activities are cancelled as well.
Read the district’s full statement below.
Dear students, parents, and staff,
In conjunction with the Peoria County Health Department, Princeville Schools are moving to an adaptive pause (remote instruction) until December 7th. During the week of November 8th, we had less than 3 students absent due to COVID19 quarantine/isolation guidelines. Last week, our numbers ballooned to over 80 students out (as of today, Monday, November 22nd). We are also testing over 100 students who have been placed in “test to stay” protocol.
Due to the quick surge in cases, Princeville Schools will be closed for in-person learning from Tuesday, November 23rd, through Monday, December 6th. We will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, December 7th. All extracurricular activities will also be canceled/postponed (games and practices) until Tuesday, December 7th.
Since it has been almost a year since we needed to move to remote instruction, we wanted to share just a few details:
-Teachers will communicate their learning expectations with students and parents through numerous communication tools (TeacherEase, email, Google Classroom, See Saw, etc.). It is important for students to complete all work/activities assigned so they do not fall behind.
-Although many teachers will be working with students synchronously (Google Meet), some teachers will likely need to utilize packets and/or choice boards (especially at the younger grade levels). For those classes needing to move to packets or choice boards, those materials may be picked up on Tuesday, November 30th (times yet to be determined).
-Breakfast and lunch will be provided, with a Tuesday, November 30th pick up date (times are yet to be determined).
The District Daycare/Migrant Head Start Program will continue to operate as normal.
-The vaccination clinic for students age 5 to 11, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, November 23rd from 9am to 12pm, will continue as planned. The clinic will be in the grade school gymnasium (masks and social distancing). We will accept walk-ins (age 5 to 11), but will be limited to the number of vaccines the clinic has available (100).
-With the increase in COVID cases in the Princeville area, the Health Department is also recommending that parents quickly access testing, preferably PCR, to limit unknowingly spreading the virus to families and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday.
We will continue to update everyone as more information becomes available.
Thank you.
