CHICAGO, Ill. — Gov. J-B Pritzker on Tuesday signed Illinois’ new congressional map into law.
The map, drawn with data from the 2020 U.S. Census, formalizes district boundaries drawn up by the state’s Democrats, who approved the proposal in October.
The map eliminates two Republican-held districts and makes elections easier for Democratic candidates, even as the state loses a congressional seat due to population loss.
Democrats and Pritzker say the new map reflects Illinois’ ethnic diversity.
Republicans say the map was drawn to benefit Illinois Democrats after they crafted it without public input.
