PEORIA, Ill. — A man suffered smoke inhalation from a fire Thursday night that severely damaged a Peoria home.
News partner 25 News reports five other family members, including a child, escaped unharmed from the two-story home in the 200 block of W. Nebraska.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Aaron Meuser said the fire started just before 8:30 p.m. in the basement where firefighters found the man.
Crews initially had difficulty rescuing the man because of a narrow stairway.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
