PEORIA, Ill. – Something Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said he’d be doing a lot of in the wake of this year’s upsurge in violent crime is, for this year at least, done.
Echevarria says his department’s series of “Walk and Talk” events will return next year, with locations to be announced.
He says this year, he and his deputies walked thirteen mostly south side neighborhoods, meeting with residents and community groups, talking about how his department can help them and do better.
“Police will continue to knock on doors to let our citizens know we’re here for you,” said Echevarria, in a news release.
The goal, Echevarria says, is to foster a more positive relationship between people and police.
