SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A new labor and safety-related law in Illinois might now include the two “Elevate Trampoline Park” locations in Peoria and East Peoria.
One of hundreds of new laws that took effect statewide on Saturday included the required inspection of trampoline parks — something Illinois Department of Labor Assistant Director Jason Keller says hasn’t happened before.
“We just want to make sure that these trampolines are inspected, that employees have background checks done on them, and receive proper training to operate the trampolines as well,” said Keller.
Keller says it would be no different than the state inspecting carnival rides to make sure they’re safe before they can operate.
Eight other states already require trampoline parks to be inspected.
Another measure is called the “Vessa” Act, and Keller says it covers domestic violence victims, and especially their ability to get the help they may need.
“[It] provides that victims, that happen to be employees, of any voilence are able to take up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave during the course of a year, to basically seek medical help, legal assistance, and counseling of that sort,” said Keller.
