PEORIA, Ill. – A new method for the public to contact Peoria Police if they see a crime is now officially available.
It’s a method Chief Eric Echevarria has long said was coming — a new text message line called “tip411.”
The app associated with it is available for both iPhone and Android devices in their stores, or through the city’s website. Or, police say, you can send in a text message without the app by texting “PEORIAPD” and the message, to the number “847411.”
“The Peoria Police Department is absolutely dedicated to making our city safer and improving the quality of life on every street, every block, and every neighborhood,” said Echevarria, in a news release. “But we cannot do it alone, we need our community to partner with us, and we believe our new tip411 system will help make it easier for residents to contact us and share information.”
The text line, officials say, is a way for the public to share anonymous tips with police, while being able to have two-way conversations about the information.
