PEORIA, Ill. — UnityPoint Health-Central Illinois is suspending all elective procedures.
Hospital officials said in a statement on Wednesday, that due to an increase in positive COVID inpatient admissions, UnityPoint’s three local hospitals are nearing capacity, including ICU beds.
Elective procedures will be temporarily suspended effective Wednesday, January 5. All impacted patients will be contacted by their surgical provider.
UnityPoint will continue to monitor the situation on a weekly basis and reassess the capacity issue for the following week’s procedures, according to the statement.
UnityPoint’s hospitals are following the recommendations of the Surgeon General, CDC, IDPH and the American College of Surgeons in this decision.
