PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police, Fire, and haz-mat crews were on the scene for several hours Tuesday afternoon after a chemical leaked from a train car.
Officials say it occurred in the rail yards in the four-thousand block of Southwest Adams near Griswold Street in South Peoria during the noon hour.
Rail and nearby vehicle traffic was shut down for a time, and businesses near the area were asked to evacuate as a precaution.
The fire department says a loose valve caused the leak of Methyl Chloride, a highly explosive flammable gas in vapor form.
