PEORIA, Ill. — Plans to renovate the Madison Theater in downtown Peoria are now closer to being a reality.
Lee Wenger, with the Madison Preservation Association, told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” on Wednesday that the theater officially has a new owner.
“The Comfort family donated the theater to the Madison Preservation Association, the donation has gone through. So, that’s a major announcement…and a major, major step,” Wenger said.
The association has also been granted a 501-C3 from the I.R.S., recognizing it as a not-for-profit organization.
A committee is meeting with designers, contractors and service providers so that construction at the Madison Theater can begin soon, Wenger said.
“Experts have been in, and they said, this can be done. It’s just a matter of ownership, and now we’ve got that,” Wenger said.
Adding to the excitement of an eventual opening of the Madison Theater, the association is asking the public to send in “Madison Memories”.
Wenger said they have plenty of pictures from the theater from the 1920s, but are looking for pictures from the 1930s, up to the early 2000s.
