PEORIA, Ill. — There are no injuries reported in the wake of a vehicle fire that hit outside a Peoria hospital.
According to live emergency dispatch calls heard in the WMBD newsroom, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Crews reportedly saw thick black smoke coming from a multi-story parking deck outside Unity Point Methodist health center in Peoria.
They found two vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
A release from Peoria fire officials says crews had to hoist fire hose several stories up the side of the parking deck in order to attack the fire and douse the flames.
Owners of both cars were reportedly found safely on the parking deck and not inside their vehicles.
Firefighters stayed on scene to watch for hot spots and tamp them down.
Engineers were called to the scene to check on the structural stability of the parking deck as a precaution.
Peoria Police had to shut down a portion of Main Street between the atrium and North Street for a short time as firefighters continued their work late Friday.
Officers had re-opened the roadway by 3:15 p.m.
