SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois General Assembly hasn’t met much this year, and that won’t change anytime soon.
Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch says in a statement the House sessions scheduled for this week have been cancelled, with at least twelve inches of snow forecast to fall in Springfield.
Welch says it’s just too dangerous for House members to travel to the Capitol.
The Illinois Senate, so far, is in session Tuesday, but won’t be the rest of the week.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is still going to give his State of the State and Budget address Wednesday, but will instead be giving it from the Old State Capitol in Springfield. The speech, when given in person, is usually in the Illinois House chamber.
Pritzker will reportedly be proposing $1 billion in tax relief for families through various means.
