PEORIA, Ill. – If you think it’s a daunting task trying to get roads clear of snow in Peoria, try being a snow plow operator in the rest of Peoria County.
“The challenge in the rural areas is the blowing and drifting,” said Amy McLaren, Peoria County Highway Engineer. “We contend with that, and it’s very difficult because we don’t have the traffic that the city does.”
McLaren says more crews will be out during the day Wednesday than there will at night, but she says they will try to keep everything clear. Or, McLaren says, as clear as possible, since once a crew clears blowing and drifting snow, they might have to start all over again.
McLaren says, meanwhile, there is some sound advice to be had ahead of the impending winter storm.
“We want everybody to be safe out there,” said McLaren. “The worst thing that could happen is that somebody gets injured during a snow event that’s a temporary condition.”
