PEORIA, Ill. – Your trash won’t get picked up in Peoria or in Pekin on Wednesday.
“Today, we are officially calling off operations,” said Eric Shangraw with GFL Environmental, formerly PDC. “We had a couple of guys in trucks go out earlier this morning. They got stuck right off the bat, or had some issues, so they brought them right back in. No trash or recycling pickup today. We’re going to delay everything for a day.”
In the meantime, Shangraw says you might want to keep an eye on your trash can.
“It becomes a battle between the garbage cart and the snow plow, and the cart or the can typically loses when you’re up against the snow plow,” said Shangraw.
Meanwhile, in Pekin, a statement from police says the area landfill has been shut down due to inclement weather and, “we anticipate solid waste and recycling pickup will resume tomorrow.”
Emptying those trash carts can be a task in weather like this, according to Shangraw.
“Those carts can hold up to, when you put water in them, I think it’s 700 pounds,” said Shangraw. “But, they can really get heavy. It’s virtually impossible to pick up a 95 gallon cart stuffed with trash and lift it up over on top of a snow drift.”
Shangraw says a decision on Thursday’s routes will be made up Thursday morning.
