PEKIN, Ill. – Crews in Pekin are doing the best they can in their battle with Mother Nature.
“It’s hit us pretty hard here like it has Peoria. All our roads are snow-covered,” said Brett Olson, Operations Supervisor, City of Pekin. “They’re pretty much snow-covered right after we plow them, but we’re trying to stay on our main arteries and do the best we can to at least get the main routes clear.”
Olson says residents need to be patient with his crews, and pay attention to the city’s parking ban, as it will give crews an easier time when they’re able to get to residential streets.
“That helps us a lot once we get into the residential areas,” said Olson. “We could use our wing plows. We could do a lot more in less time.”
Olson says residential roads will be cleared by Friday. He has a small but mighty force of snow fighters there.
“We have thirteen total Street Department workers,” said Olson. “They came in at 11 (Tuesday) night. Half will go home at seven o’clock. The rest will work a sixteen (-hour shift), and we’re going to be around the clock. We’ll have…six or seven guys here around the clock until we get all these streets clean.”
