PEORIA, Ill. – It was a little rough for Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria as he tried to get to work Wednesday morning.
“I couldn’t get out of my street without having to get out and push somebody this morning,” said Echevarria.
Echevarria says he can tell you first hand being out and about during this winter storm is a bad idea.
“As I was driving in to work, I had seen a lot of cars out and about,” said Echevarria. “I was just thinking to myself, ‘If you can stay home, please do.'”
Echevarria says it’s business as usual for his department, despite the winter storm, but with some possible exceptions.
“We may partner up some officers, and put a couple two-man vehicles out there, so we don’t have to send two cars to a call,” said Echevarria.
Echevarria tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show” it may take his officers a little longer to respond to various calls, but he also wants them to remain as safe as possible.
Echevarria says while you should stay home, get out long enough to check on neighbors.
“If you have elderly people in your neighborhood, you have an elderly neighbor, go check on them,” said Echevarria.
